Company License
A trade license is a must when it comes to conducting business in the UAE. The UAE economic department issues the licenses, and the procedures of license issuance vary from one emirate to another. The issuance, renewal, and cancellation of company licenses are carried out by the licensing authority where the company is situated.
Broadly, there are three company jurisdictions in the UAE being:
Mainland
If you choose to conduct business in UAE Mainland, you will need to register a business entity with the Department of Economic Development (DED), which will then provide you with a business license. Mainland companies can practice any industrial, commercial, trading, professional, or tourism activity.
Free zones
Free zones are geographically demarcated areas within the UAE permitting 100% foreign ownership and are in most cases, dedicated to a specific industry. Each free zone has its own specific requirements regarding minimum capital requirements, office or warehouse space, and permitted activities; with each possessing the relevant licenses and adequate legislation to enable its dedicated industry to flourish.
Offshore
An offshore company is an international business entity that offers no tax or low-tax benefits with registered businesses in UAE but runs outside of the country. They offer ideal systems for business management, wealth management, application of smart international investment strategies, and ease of business operations.
The nature of the economic activity defines the legal form of the company and the type of license required. There are six types of licenses, namely industrial license, commercial license, crafts license, tourism license, agricultural license, and professional license. Attestation of Documents
